The Calgary Flames avoided arbitration today with defenceman Ian White, signing the defenceman to a 1 year deal today. It's believed the deal is worth a shade under 3 million dollars. The Manitoba native had 13 goals and 25 assists last year split between Calgary and Toronto.

The Edmonton Eskimos will be hoping to end an ugly start to their season and finally pick up their first win tonight when they host the BC Lions at commonwealth. The Esks have opened the season with 4 straight losses for the first time since 1965. The Lions aren't much better at 1-3.

The Jays will have their ace, Shaun Marcum, on the hill tonight as they open a series at Rogers Centre against the Cleveland Indians. Toronto is on a bit of a roll, winners of 5 of their last six. The Indians counter with 3-9 Justin Masterson.

The Phillies are wasting no time putting Roy Oswalt to work. Their deadline acquisition will take to the bump for their game tonight in Washington. Oswalt was aquired by Philadelphia yesterday, from Houston. Meanwhile, A-Rod will be hoping a change of scenery will help him finally hit his 600th home run, as the Yankees open a series in Tampa Bay.
