Land Breaths: A Treaty 8 Exhibition
April 4 to August 4 at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie inside the Montrose Cultural Centre next to the Grande Prairie Public Library at 9839 – 103 Ave.
Admission is free. Donations are accepted.
Open Tuesday & Wednesday 10am to 6pm. Thursday 10am to 9pm. Friday & Saturday 10am to 5pm. Sunday 1pm to 5pm.
Land Breaths reflects on the signing of Treaty 8 from the perspectives of the Beaver, Dene, Cree and Métis peoples. Each artwork in this group exhibition speaks to how Treaty 8 has shaped the artists’ relationships with the land over time. These connections are deeply rooted in family, history, identity, and the enduring resilience found in joy and cultural survival. Expressed through a variety of mediums such as photography, sculpture, textiles, painting, printmaking, beadwork, and multimedia, the artworks in this exhibition reveal the profound impact of Treaty 8. Each artist brings to light an evolution from the signing of Treaty 8, recognizing historic figures, kinship with the natural world, and acknowledging the trauma caused by broken treaty promises.
Our ancestral languages are born from the sounds and songs of the earth, reflecting the land’s language as it breathes life outward into the world. Each artwork draws inspiration from these “land breaths,” resulting in a creative outpouring stemming from lived experiences within Treaty 8. There is an unwavering commitment to continually acknowledge and honour the land with each breath and every creation.
Treaties are the basis of all relationships. They exist in order to understand and agree on how to work together.

Charles Spencer High School presents Carrie: The Musical at the KMSC Law Performing Arts Theatre.
Thursday, April 25 at 7:30pm
Friday, April 26 at 7:30pm
Saturday, April 27 at 2pm and 7:30pm
Tickets are $20 / adults and $15 / students.
This chilling musical is not recommended for young audiences. Sensitive content includes staged depictions of: bullying, religious fanaticism, blood, and death.
Based off of the well-known Stephen King novel by the same name, the macabre story of a high school girl with telekinetic abilities is written for stage by Lawrence D. Cohen, music by Michael Gore, and lyrics by Dean Pitchford.
Join in the frightening fun on closing night, April 27th between 7-7:30pm and walk the blood-red carpet in your spookiest attire; it’s like Halloween in April!
About the musical:
Stephen King’s debut novel, Carrie, was released in 1974 and was an immediate smash hit. Selling over one million copies in the first year, Carrie was later adapted for film in 1978 to rave reviews. Carrie: The Musical was originally released in 1988 and premiered for a very short-lived run in Stratford-Upon-Avon in February, before transferring to Broadway in May of the same year. It famously closed after a mere 16 previews and 5 performances, earning it’s place as the most prolific flop in Broadway history. Fortunately the musical was revived in 2012 and received some serious revisions. The production as we know it now is presented with an anti-bullying message fronted by the slogan “what does it cost to be kind?”. Although this message has received criticism given the show’s gruesome ending, the production is a hit sure to entertain nonetheless. Carrie follows the story of a young girl who’s life is dominated by her religious fanatic mother. She is ridiculed and brutally ostracized by her classmates who are led by Chris Hargensen and Sue Snell before discovering that she possesses telekinetic abilities. As an act of reconciliation, Sue encourages her boyfriend, Tommy Ross, to ask Carrie to their senior prom. Carrie White lives in pure bliss as she steals one night of normalcy away from her overbearing mother, but will it last?

“I Want To Know What Love Is”, “Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Juke Box Hero,” “Urgent,” and no less than five more Top 10 hits. Today, FOREIGNER, the band behind these iconic songs announces its historic Farewell Tour of Canada.
Set to begin on May 2024 in Abbotsford, BC, FOREIGNER will be joined by Headpins, one of Canada’s 80’s hit-makers. The spectacular show will thrill audiences with stellar performances of chart-topping songs.
Tickets at www.lakeviewtix.com, over the phone at 250-782-7443 or in person at the Lake View Tix Box Office located in the Ovintiv Events Centre. $82+ to $115+. Seating Chart.
FOREIGNER will continue its long-term initiative with the GRAMMY Museum Foundation to support music education in Canadian schools. The band will join radio partners to create a contest for local high school choirs to win the opportunity to perform a song live on stage with FOREIGNER, together with a donation to their music program.
Leader and founder of FOREIGNER, Mick Jones said, “Many years ago, I wrote a song called ‘Feels Like The First Time’ and now we are performing one last worldwide tour. We will be presenting a show that I know will have the same enthusiasm as our very first appearances. While I’m sure our fans will have mixed feelings about the end of the road for the band, I know our shows are going to delight audiences everywhere.”
Says FOREIGNER lead singer Kelly Hansen, "The time has come. We have more or less lived our lives on the road for almost eighteen years. We have always strived to give you our best and we intend to finish this the same way. Foreigner has a brilliant and increasingly demanding catalogue of songs to sing and I refuse to give them less than they deserve. So, we’re going to finish strong. I want to make it very clear how grateful and appreciative we are to our audiences all over the world who have supported this band. I’m sure there may be occasions when we’ll do some special appearances, but I think the time is coming for us to live off the road. Thank you all so much!”
“We are very excited to announce a Western Canadian Tour with Foreigner scheduled for May 2024. We are greatly looking forward to sharing the stage and performing all our hits,” says Headpins.
Mick Jones continues to elevate FOREIGNER’s influence and guide the band to new horizons with his stylistic songwriting, indelible guitar hooks and multi-layered talents while lead singer Kelly Hansen, one of rock’s greatest showmen, takes FOREIGNER into the digital age inspiring a whole new generation of fans. Bassist Jeff Pilson; Michael Bluestein on keyboards; guitarist Bruce Watson; Chris Frazier on drums and guitarist Luis Maldonado provide an unprecedented level of energy that has resulted in the re-emergence of the astounding music that speaks to FOREIGNER‘s enduring popularity.
