Enrolment Numbers Up for All Three School Districts

Aug 15, 2012

Early projections suggest there will be an extra 300 kids attending classes within the Public School District this year. With space always an issue, Superintendent Carol Ann MacDonald says there is relief coming.

"Our Board has leased an additional five modulars for Derek Taylor. We also have the additional three units coming to Parkside," she says.

As for the budget, MacDonald says it's looking good thanks to the provincial government providing three years of sustainable funding. Some of that money will be used for "instructional coaching".

In the meantime, enrolment numbers for the Catholic School District are also on the rise.

Superintendent Karl Germann expects to see around 75 new faces.

"There's a lot of growth in kindergarten. It's going to be an interesting challenge over time but a challenge we're looking forward to," he says.

Germann adds work at Kateri is on pace while crews are a bit behind at Mother Teresa. He assures everyone the wait will be worth it.

PWA meanwhile predicts an additional 70 students.
