County to provide grants for Canada 150 celebrations

Feb 12, 2017

Local communities celebrating Canada's 150th could get a boost from the County of Grande Prairie.  Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins says they are awarding several grants.

"The County wanted to award up to $10,000 per community, based on the scope and the size of the event, to basically reach as many people within the County as possible rather than just having one central location or central event, we felt this was the best way to reach the maximum amount of residents."

A total of $100,000 will be divvied up to communities in the County.

"It could be anything across the arts, it could be something theatrical, it could be an interpretive program,” explained Rawlins. “The scope is really quite broad, we wanted to keep it accessible to everyone and to encourage people to get creative with what they thought would be a great way to celebrate Canada's 150th."

Grant applications will be accepted from February 15, 2017 to March 31, 2017.

Those who are granted the funding will be notified by May 15, 2017.
