Playoffs set, awards dished out in NWJHL

First round matchups are set in the North West Junior Hockey League.

The County Kings will play the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks and Fort St. John will battle the Sexsmith Vipers. The North Peace Navigators and Fairview Flyers booked themselves first round byes.

Awards are out in the NWJHL as well.

Fairview's Kenton White is the big winner, taking home top goaltender and Most Valuable Player honours.

Sexsmith Vipers' Max McNeil is top defenceman, Josh Sylvain of the North Peace Navigators is the rookie of the year, Ben Moffat of the Fairview Flyers is most gentlemanly, Dawson Creek's Gene Cooper has been named coach of the year and Wesley Shipton of the Jr. Canucks captured this seasons scoring title.

Albert Cooper of Peace River is this year’s recipient of the Al Spence Award.

In other NWJHL news, Hockey Alberta has announced that the Fort St. John Huskies have won their bid to host the 2017-18 Junior B Provincials.
